Monofilament Line Recycling Program

When fishing season is upon us, we produce a lot of tangles and unwanted monofilament fishing line. Fishing line is known to entangle fish and birds. In an effort to reduce this threat, RBCA built and installed collection containers in 2009 with funding from the Ocean Alaska Science and Learning Center (OASLC). RBCA has five monofilament collection receptacles in several locations around town, including the harbor and some beach areas (see map below). Please deposit any of your unwanted or unusable line. We empty these containers throughout the summer and send the contents to a recycling facility.
